Job Description:
The Peoria Community Against Violence (PCAV) has partnered with OSF to provide services to victims of violence in the Peoria Community. The Illinois Criminal Justice Authority has provided grant funding for a Community Outreach Coordinator for a 36-month period, with the possibility of an extension following a reapplication for the grant. The Community Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for multiple duties including those related to the Crisis Response Team (CRT), see the list below.
PCAV is seeking an individual with knowledge of violence in the Peoria area who is experienced in crisis response and participant focused community outreach, to join their team as the Community Outreach Coordinator.
Position Highlights:
The Community Outreach Coordinator will assist Coordinators of Community Outreach in all aspects of education and recruitment of the Crisis Response Team. Responsibilities include recruiting and retaining participants into volunteer activities, with special emphasis on retention. Exemplifies the PCAV mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with PCAV policies and procedures.
The position will report directly to the PCAV Chief Executive Officer and to the PCAV Board.
Position Responsibilities:
+ Know the mission and goals of PCAV and be able to relate those in public speaking engagements
+ Assist the CEO with planning and coordinating all PCAV sponsored events
+ Assist the CEO in developing a positive and open line of communication with public officials on behalf of PCAV
+ Assist in developing a positive relationship with other social service agencies and promote the collaboration for CRT
+ Assist the CEO in developing a relationship with and recruit appropriate vendors for PCAV events
+ Act as a Lead for CRT (back up for the Chief Executive Officer)
+ Attend all public PCAV Meetings
+ Successfully complete all CRT train the trainer programs
+ Assist the CEO in training all volunteers on CRT
+ Supervise CRT crisis call outs in the absence of the CEO
+ Act as a mentor for members of the CRT volunteers
+ Assist the CEO in maintaining the training records for all CRT members
+ Assist the CEO in ensuring that all CRT members meet current training standards
+ Assist the CEO in planning and implementing an advertising strategy for all PCAV events
+ Coordinate volunteers to assist at all PCAV events
+ Assist the CEO with other agencies to develop new violence reduction strategies
+ Provide training to outside agencies on PCAV and utilization of CRT
+ Respond to other jurisdictions to conduct training when requested relative to PCAV and CRT
+ Attend follow-up meetings with victims of violent crime following a CRT call out
+ Assist the CEO on all required reporting for grants, the IRS, or other mandatory reporting
+ Maintain a current, accurate record of all PCAV related activities completed by the coordinator
+ Assist the CEO in seeking out new communities for possible educational and research recruitment endeavors and establishes and maintains relationships with individuals in these communities. Serves as resource person to these communities and individuals
+Assist the CEO in meeting with community members to create new collaborations for various research recruitment opportunities. Serves as resource person to these community members
+Assist the CEO in the creation and distribution of monthly newsletters for PCAV
+May coordinate and assist with internal educational functions and activities
+Other educational and recruitment activities, as assigned
Required Position Qualifications:
+ A Bachelor's degree in a social science or related field and three years of experience working in the Peoria area in the field of providing social service or working with a population of individuals who are at risk of violence.
+A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in social services or providing services to at residents of the Peoria area who are at risk of violence
+Extensive knowledge of the impact of violence and it’s causes in the Peoria area
+Crisis Intervention experience
+ At least two years of volunteer service working to promote an improved quality of life for residents of the Peoria area community.
+ Outreach experience or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience where the required knowledge, skills and abilities have been acquired.
+ Understanding of research studies and how research can assist in reducing violence.
+ Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Excellent organizational skills.
+ Excellent public communication skills
+ Ability to use time effectively with only minimal direction.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
+Experience volunteering with the Peoria Community Against Violence.
